SAN DIEGO ASG CHAPTER RECOGNIZED BY THE ARMED SERVICES YMCA FOR THE SECOND YEAR
On January 25, 2008, the San Diego Chapter of the American Sewing Guild was honored (for the second year in a row) for our participation in the Operation Kid Comfort Quilt program. We received the certificate from Lori Saldaña of the California State Assembly that graces the front cover of the newsletter and a plaque from the ASYMCA. As a group, we completed 596 quilts in 2007. In addition, Rhoda Keegan was awarded the Volunteer of the Year award for her efforts in purchasing the needed material and cutting all of the quilt kits. Rhoda devotes about 25 hours per week to this effort. Our top three quilt makers Ruby Hara, Jackie McDonald, and Retha Meneghini were also honored and received certificates to acknowledge their outstanding efforts . An Additional Note From Our President As chapter president, I extend a big thank you to everyone who participated in this program in 2007 and encourage everyone to get involved in 2008. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to be honored again at the awards dinner in 2008. It’s a good feeling to know we have affected the lives of so many children. What a wonderful way to honor “those who serve us to keep us free” .
