FLIP AND SEW COMFORT QUILT PROCEDURE
CENTER SECTION: Sew pictures and blocks to form center section using 1/4” seams. Press. Lay out back (face down), batting, and center section (face up) centered on sandwich. Be
sure to allow enough room all around center for borders. Pin through all 3 layers in set squares, avoiding areas to be sewn; or use spray to anchor picture section to batting. This will avoid
shifting in the next step.
Using walking foot (if you have one), sew diagonally through set squares as shown at the left. STOP SHORT OF EDGES AND CORNERS BY 1/4"
FLIP AND STITCH BORDERS: (all seams should be 1/4”)
INNER BORDER: Lays sides of inner border rights side together on top of photo section and sew through all 3 layers. Start and stop 1/4" from edges because top and bottom will catch these areas.
Follow same procedure for top and bottom of inner border, again starting and stopping short by 1/4". Press borders out and pin through all layers. PRESS BORDERS OUT AND PIN THROUGH ALL LAYERS.
OUTER BORDER: Lays sides of outer border rights side together on top of inner borders and sew through all 3 layers. WATCH FOR DIRECTIONAL FABRIC. Start and stop 1/4" from edges because top and bottom will catch these areas. PRESS BORDERS OUT AND PIN THROUGH ALL LAYERS.
Sew one set square to one end of each top and bottom outer border. Measure quilt width to determine placement of other set square for top and bottom border. Follow flip and sew for top and bottom borders. Press and pin through all layers. Trim away excess back and batting. Fold back outer border and sew on label. Prepare binding as usual and finish quilt.
